My work centres on language, specifically what happens when it is precise and what is lost when it is not.
I began not in an office but at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, training international naval officers in operational English and military communication. Some were candidates for the Royal Marines. In that environment, precision in language was not academic — it was a professional standard that carried real weight.
That work took me further. Aviation English with the Algerian Air Force under the RELTA framework. Business English with government officials and executives in the Czech Republic. Specialist corporate English for SEAT and Leica in Barcelona, where I also co-founded an English language newspaper.
I eventually arrived in Stockholm, where I spent years writing for SAAB, Scania, IKEA, Atlas Copco, Sweco and ABB — as a senior copywriter, editor and content strategist. I also co-edited a climate science report for the Stockholm Resilience Centre and contributed to the WWF Baltic Exhibition.
Today my work divides between two areas.
The first is content and communications. Strategic B2B writing and editorial for international organisations, under my own name at antonyriley.com.
The second is Calibre English. A specialist communication coaching practice for senior professionals and executives who already operate at a high level and want their English to match it. Not tutoring. Coaching built around your professional context, your industry and what precision in English actually requires at your level.
